What is Learning Experience Design (LxD) and what do I do exactly?

I Believe Learning Matters.

How do you plan, design, and implement a learning journey for your organization?

Ok, let us start at the begining … What is the Learning Experience Design (LxD)? LxD is the science and art of creating experiences that help learners fulfill the learning outcomes they need or want.

Learner-centric design

With the help of LxD, the Learning journey is delivered in a learner-centered and goal-oriented way. This means learning is designed to be super practical and personalized to participants learner style, pace etc.  But … it is not just about learning and learner needs!

Balance of learner and business needs

It is about delivering great learning to your learners AND exceptional results for your organization. Learning Experience Design (LxD) is looking for a balance between learners and business needs.

This is WHY the Learning Design is so important.

The Learning Experience Design Model

The model is customized for every client specifically, but you can check out the six main categories I use when designing a learning journey.

1. Analyze

Explore Your Learning Environment

Understanding different aspects of your current learning environment and needs. We connect this with your strategic and organizational goals and set a learning context for the learning.

4. Deliver

Launch the Learning Journey

The Learning Journey is rolled-out and delivered to the learners. We monitor its impact during the process.

2. Design

Co-create learning objectives

A collaborative process where we together explore and uncover additional insights, iterate, and design actionable learning objectives and solutions for the organization.

5. Evaluate

Use data to reflect on the Learning

Using learner data, we measure learner activities against the goals set in the ‘Analyze’ and ‘Design’ stages. Data and measurement provides feedback for our Learning journey  and its implementation.

3. Develop

Bring Learning Journey to Life

Creation of learning assets and modules. My content design and delivery skills include: eLearning,  Workshop and training design, Virtual classroom and webinar design, Support resources.

    6. Sustain

    Continuous Learning Mindset

Often overlooked stage. We take insights gained from the evaluation and prepare additional learning resources for new knowledge and behaviours to sustain.

Do you want to give it a try?

There are some learning experience design canvases which you can check (for example: at lxd.org) or you can start skecthing your own. You can also dowload a simple and free canvas I have prepared for you initial inputs. Feel free to play around with it and then contact me to dive deeper.
